LIMA — A Lima man who police said struck his victim in the head and left him permanently disabled on Thursday accepted a plea deal from prosecutors that will cap his maximum possible time behind bars at 18 months.

Cory Clair, 40, was indicted in August by an Allen County grand jury on a charge of felonious assault, a felony of the second degree. According to court documents, police say Clair caused serious injury to Kenneth Daniels Sr. on the evening of July 11. Police were called at approximately 8:30 p.m. that day to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical to speak with Daniels, who was reported to be the victim of an assault.

Daniels told police he was drinking with a friend on the front porch of a residence in the 600 block of West Wayne Street in Lima when Clair pulled into the driveway and told both subjects to leave his sister’s residence. Daniels told police he did not want trouble and began to walk away when he was struck in the back of the head by Clair.
