LIMA — A Lima man who stabbed his mother with what police described as a “samurai”-style sword earlier this year agreed Thursday to plead guilty to a fourth-degree felony charge of felonious assault.
Garyson Merchant, 25, appeared in Allen County Common Pleas Court for a final pretrial hearing in the case against him. Merchant was indicted in March by a grand jury on a single count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, after stabbing his mother and sending her to a Lima hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Lima Police Department officers were summoned the afternoon of Jan. 22 to 1157 Rice Ave. in Lima and found Erika Hathaway, 44, suffering from knife wounds. She was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries, according to police reports.
